Motherhood (1 of 2)
According to Rebecca West,” Motherhood is the triumph over the fear of death.” It is the woman’s greatest and most fulfilling role; it is endless, and more of giving than receiving.
In spite of the heavy role that a mother has, still she is neglected and devalued. Who among you cares for the woman who brought you up in this world? Do you let her feel that you are ingratitude for what she has done for you? How often do you do it, or don’t care for them anymore?
Mother’s Day is held on the second week of May but the JIL Milan celebrated it on the fourth day of May. The Couples Ministry in Cooperation with The Arts and Theatre presented a film entitled, “Ikaw.” It enabled all the children, young and old to recall the significance of the mother in the family. The film has a very unique family setting and it portrays the struggles, heartaches and sacrifices a mother has when the children and the husband are not yet believers of Jesus Christ.
Sis. Matty Aguilar, the Couples Ministry Coordinator delivered the Word of God with the theme, “The Sacrificial Love of a Mother.” She mentioned some women from the Bible who sacrificed and endured. Among were Eve (Gen.3:16), Jochebed, Mary, the mother of Jesus (Luke 2:19), and the Canaanite woman who cried a lot for the healing touch of God for her child (Matthew 15:25).
The parallel clauses for motherhood were given due emphasis. It deals with child-bearing that starts from conception to birth; giving birth in which the mother suffers from tremendous pain and has the high risk of mortality. It also deals with child rearing. The mother begins her sacrifices through having sleepless nights attending to her child. The mother’s sacrifice is limitless. Though she is old enough, she still watches her middle-aged children for signs of improvements. She still cares for them and looks after their well- pursuit.
